Cyber security is at the forefront of security worries for HNWs and business, says Simon Giddens, the managing director of security company Blackstone Consultancy. ‘The threat is becoming more intelligent, more aggressive, privacy can no longer be taken for granted; events are transmitted globally in seconds via social media platforms,’ he tells Spear’s, adding that although London is still one of the safest cities in Europe, there has been a heightened amount of attacks against people with what is known in the industry as ‘perceived’ wealth — especially by organised crime.
All that — plus the terror attacks in Paris, the troubles of Brexit and the hacking of US online giant Yahoo! — have led to a busy year for Blackstone. ‘We have identified a requirement from clients searching for reassurance, stability and appropriate advice’, he says, noting that a lot of customers are helped by the eight-man management team who have a strong professional network across Europe from property, finance and legal backgrounds.
Giddens’ love of the job comes from the work’s diversity. ‘No two days are the same,’ he says, which seems to also be indicated in the management’s leisure activities, including Serpentine swimming, Crossfit events and visiting the jungles of Borneo.
