The breadth and distinction of the work undertaken by 6a is reflected in their current to do list which includes a new building for Churchill College, Cambridge (thanks to a competition win in 2009), a photography studio for Juergen Teller, the expansion of MK Gallery in Milton Keynes, a private house and gallery in London, an apartment building and several gallery projects. They have a particular reputation for contemporary art galleries, such as the South London Gallery for which they won multiple awards, educational buildings, residential projects and for working in sensitive historic environments.

Founded by Tom Emerson and Stephanie Macdonald in 2001 after they met at the Royal College of Art, 6a, in just fifteen years, has become one of the leading architectural practices in the UK working on projects nationally and internationally. The practice has won several major architectural tural competitions and international awards including the redevelopment of a large industrial complex in Oval for the London Development Agency and a housing development in Savigny-le-Temple, France.
