Scotland’s Castle Craig Hospital was founded in 1988 as a residential rehabilitation hospital. Treating those with addictions, as well as complex illnesses including trauma and PTSD, it has established itself as a reliable and respected rehab centre. Approximately 10,000 patients from the UK and abroad have received treatment at Castle Craig, which is surrounded by 50 acres of countryside and is just 40 minutes from Edinburgh by car. Castle Craig treats alcohol and drug addiction as a chronic illness, so treatment involves medical input from consultant psychiatrists, a GP and nurses. Patients also undertake specialised therapies such as CBT and group therapy, and a 12-step programme. Complementary techniques such as Thai head massage and aromatherapy also aid recovery.
