Craig Norton first became interested in fine wine following a brief spell working in hospitality between school and university, before taking a job at a wine bar and then running a wine shop. He joined FINE + RARE six years ago and has since worked closely alongside now CEO Patrick O’Connor to grow and improve the business. As a Sales Director, Norton is responsible for driving the business and overseeing the development of over 20 account managers in their London and Hong Kong offices, with an additional presence in South Africa, Singapore and beyond. The focus continues to be on ‘making everything more personalised and offering a more nuanced level of experience’ in response to an increasingly demanding global HNW clientele. The last four years have seen the company go from strength to strength, he says: it now provides a super-efficient platform on which to buy, sell and store wine with more than 75,000 listings, and the ability to deliver almost anywhere in the world. The HNW customer demands nothing less. ‘Our customers expect updates on market trends, access to and information on the world’s most sought-after allocations, as well as access to the rarest wines and the best domains, at the most competitive prices, as well as expert guidance when building their collections for the future,’ explains Norton. When it comes to his own preferences, Norton confesses to being predominantly a Francophile, with a particular penchant for Burgundy.
