David de Ferrars is a market leader on disputes surrounding the sale and purchase of classic cars. These include anything from a blip in a car’s provenance to someone selling a car they don’t own — or forgeries, which are becoming increasingly common. He has been with Taylor Wessing since qualifying 24 years ago, but it wasn’t until colleague Ronald Graham brought his clients from RM Auctions (now RM Sotheby’s) to the firm that he was able to bring his lifelong interest in cars into the workplace. He brings a good grasp of the classic market to the firm. ‘I’ve always owned something that’s old that involved tinkering under the bonnet to the extent of my capabilities,’ he says. If money were no object, he’d opt for a 1930s MG.
