Edward Goodchild named Chawker & Co, which he set up in 2011, after one of Winchester College’s boarding school houses. As Chawker was a safe steward of his education, so he has set out to be a safe steward of HNWs’ interests. Six years later, it seems to have worked. ‘Our clients value our perspective, knowledge and understanding,’ he explains. A good family office, he insists, needs widespread knowledge and a dose of humility. ‘They have to have an awareness that they are not masters of everything. Collaboration is key,’ he explains. Goodchild warms to a challenge — and none has been bigger than his decision to renovate a house that was last given the treatment in 1924.
