After being in partnership with his father for two decades, Francis Terry started his own practice in 2016. While he is one of the leading practitioners in new-build classical houses for UHNW clients, his is also a flexible practice: ‘We are happy to turn our hand to some more contemporary design if the brief requires it,’ says Terry, who is the chairman of the Traditional Architecture Group. Nevertheless, his inspiration comes from classical sources such as English Georgian, Louis XV design, and the Italian Renaissance. The firm was recently granted planning consent for a new Palladian house, due to be built in Norfolk. Permission was given on account of the proposed house being considered an ‘exceptional’ work of architecture — that says it all.
