The pioneer of the new wave of members clubs that offered dynamism and swagger over and above decanters of sherry, the iconic Groucho, now in its 32nd year, hasn’t rested on its laurels. After a period of being, in his words, ‘in something of a rut’ after previous owners ‘took their eye off the ball’, chief executive Matt Hobbs believes the Groucho is now back to its best. ‘We love our members,’ he says. The last of the recent refurbishments are now complete and the club has a brand new restaurant. ‘The back room’ has a seasonal Italian menu, while the dining room on the first floor remains true to its club roots and has a more traditional menu. The private event spaces have been refreshed and are available for members and non-members to hire.
