Trainer of the Investec Derby winner, Golden Horn, John Gosden has won over 3,000 races around the world throughout his career, including over 100 Group 1s in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. He won the Derby in 1997 and the 1,000 Guineas in 2000 and has won over 40 races at Royal Ascot, including the Prince of Wales’s Stakes. He studied economics at Cambridge but claims he never considered doing anything else: training was ‘in the blood’. He started his career as assistant to two of the most successful trainers in history, Vincent O’Brien and Sir Noel Murless, before moving to California in 1979. He returned in 1989 to set up in Newmarket, where he remains today at Clarehaven Stables.
