Formerly of Nicky Haslam, South African designer Justin Van Breda has eclectic influences: ‘I have always loved the Art Deco period and I’m mad about the Georgians.’ Certainly he always has the Palladian ideal in mind when he comes to design a room. For Van Breda, the point of a room is to make the client happy: he brings this simple philosophy to bear in work in London, Cape Town, Venice and the Caribbean. There’s also humour in his work, as if the classical is glimpsed through a witty prism. Van Breda is the founder of The Fabric Room, which represents international designers in the UK along with his own fabric lines. He is represented by Harrods and sells his own products into the UK, USA, Australia and even Russia.
