Lucy Cawkwell took her first tutoring job during her gap year in 1992, and has taught over 70 students between five and 18 in subjects from maths and science to English, French and geography. With her experience of pupils of all ages, nationalities and abilities, there are few scenarios she hasn’t encountered. She set up her own company in 2000. ‘I want to provide a discreet, personal service in an industry that is rapidly becoming overcrowded and reliant on automated online systems,’ she says. Cawkwell offers home-schooling and private tuition to students from a variety of backgrounds — including those with learning differences or suffering from mental illness.
