‘It always feels like a privilege when clients share their family backgrounds with me,’ says Michelle Rose, head of private clients at Veale Wasbrough Vizards. It’s more than just a privilege, though: it’s ‘often as important as the law governing the dispute they have — without a true understanding of the family dynamics at play and the personalities involved, it is much harder to negotiate a settlement’. She says it’s important to treat clients individually: ‘Some clients need a high level of support at a traumatic time of their lives,’ she notes, pointing out that it’s often after a death, ‘while others close down and want a steely solicitor without dealing with the emotional side of the dispute’. She enjoys travelling and gardening.
