Penny Elliott continues to work on high-value rural estate sales and purchases, with clients ranging from aristocratic families to those who have made fortunes in property-owning businesses. ‘The fundamental issues are the same,’ she says. ‘How best to control, manage and enjoy a landed estate as it passes down the generations.’ She says clients’ primary focus is ‘to identify the most appropriate steward of the estate, address the provision for family members and create flexible structures for holding assets’. Brexit-wise, Elliott is concerned about the ‘potential impact on the UK, interest rates, taxation and other commercial pressures’. Even so, in the past year, she has won ‘some incredibly interesting new clients’.
