Richard Abbey started his career as an accountant at EY in 1988, working on the firm’s renowned forensic fraud and investigations unit, helping clients identify and address wrongdoings. Even before technology brought complexity to the space, he had a grasp of how cyber, data and reputation intersect: ‘The very nature of the situations meant the areas for investigations and the data being investigated were much wider than just numbers. It’s building up corporate profiles, research, and using data sets to piece together what happened.’ He built a financial investigations practice with Kroll, before returning to EY. He counts HNWs, company boards and individuals among his clients.
