‘We are a small firm with few hands off,’ says Simon Johnson, managing partner at Marshall Oliver. ‘We operate in a specialist market, in close partnership with clients. We add value and we like the fact that we do something that matters.’ Clients tend to arrive by word of mouth, and reach beyond the UK to include Swiss and European private banks and more. ‘Many continue to view London as the world’s finance centre,’ says Johnson. ‘We see a lot of positivity about the UK market.’ His last four mandates were a 50-50 split between the UK and Switzerland: one was for the London head of a boutique French bank, suggesting they intend to stay regardless of Brexit. Johnson says his role is ‘about exceeding client expectations’.
