‘There has been a huge shift towards bringing forward housing development. The majority of estates have seen at least some opportunities, and some have very major developments planned,’ says Simon Pring, who leads Farrer’s estates team. Although the impact of Brexit on the landed estates market has been trivial, Pring anticipates changes to client attitudes, whereby ‘significant estates’ might no longer be purchased as ‘investments by private individuals’, but hopes for positive market effects by the end of the year. The Cambridge graduate has a string of high-profile cases to his name, with clients including the Duchy of Lancaster and the Church Commissioners for England.
