Spear’s Review
Formerly of Nicky Haslam, South African designer Justin Van Breda has eclectic influences: ‘I have always loved the Art Deco period, and I’m mad about the Georgians,’ he says.
Certainly he always has the Palladian ideal in mind when he comes to designing a room. For Van Breda, the point of a room is to make the client happy: he brings this simple philosophy to bear in work in London, Cape Town, Venice and the Caribbean. There’s also humour in his work, as if the classical is glimpsed through a witty prism.
Van Breda is the founder of Cape Looms, a project that 'builds community through craft', hand weaving flat weave rugs in Cape Town, South Africa. He is represented by Coleman and Rose and James showroom in the US and sells his own products in the UK and Europe.
