Morrow is eighteen minutes late for our call because he’s spotted an investor’s mistake. ‘It’s an incredibly time-consuming process,’ he says. Each deal has a lead angel investor responsible for due diligence and his team ‘super-curates’ everything. He founded the Angels Den crowdinvesting business eight years ago, realising that while potential angels had the money, they didn’t necessarily have the time or the expertise to examine each deal with the thoroughness they warrant. It’s also, he says, incredibly beneficial to be an angel in the UK due to tax reliefs, ‘especially as the best return they can get on their money is 1.8 per cent on a two-year bond’. However, ‘just because you’re rich doesn’t necessarily mean you know how to be a good business angel,’ he says, ‘so we train angels for free.’
