‘My golf game hasn’t got any better because I’ve been too busy with clients,’ says McDermott, who has been using a tough few months on the market to make sure those clients are in the best possible position.
‘It’s an opportunity to sit down with your clients, review their plan and their objectives. It’s always important to be in front of them — and, yes, they are very receptive.’
The Irishman has spent a career earning clients’ trust, making sure they were well cocooned when things went south in the credit crunch (‘at times of stress we’re their partner’).
He also offers innovative solutions to protect their capital from future volatility.
‘We’ve got a deep platform in that respect,’ maintain McDermott. ‘Clients like the methodology, the process and the solutions we’re bringing to them on that.’
