It’s been another busy year for Bishop, who speaks to Spear’s between leaving court and departing for an eightweek sabbatical, saying she can’t wait to do nothing for a while. As a collaborative law specialist she’s happy to be out of court, despite litigation often making her more money. ‘My fees in total were £100,000; I imagine the husband had similar costs,’ she says.
‘That was £200,000 this family spent on their lawyers when they could have saved three-quarters of that if they’d sat down and been sensible about it. I don’t take any pleasure in spending other people’s money on sorting out things that are capable of being sorted.’ Bishop’s ‘calm, empathetic approach’ means avoiding making things harder than they already are.
