Lipson, the head of family law at Withers since 2008, is praised by his peers for his efficiency and commonsense, with rivals calling him ‘an old head on relatively young shoulders’, ‘a star performer’ and a lawyer who ‘perfectly combines wisdom, charm and good judgment’. He specialises in pre-nups and big-money divorces — often multi-jurisdictional cases with complex financial structures.
Lipson, who has a large Anglo-French practice and an important Anglo-American practice, says HNWs have been willing to be less inhibited when handling divorce settlements in the past twelve months. ‘When the recession was still very strong, people were much more cautious about doing deals and taking on risk,’ he says. More clients now prefer risk and a potentially greater upside.
