Chamberlayne is happy to spend time with Spear’s discussing recent changes in family law. He works on financial remedy cases for UHNW clients, mainly international ones. ‘It is very rare now that I would do a case in which at least one of the parties is British,’ he says. ‘Maybe ten or fifteen years ago someone doing my job would have had quite a lot of work involving “old English money” — aristocratic families, landed families — but those have been outstripped in terms of wealth by foreign clients.’ Chamberlayne has been busy with cases ranging from a Russian/Israeli couple in dispute about assets and liabilities in Liechtenstein owned through Caribbean companies to a couple arguing about the value and prospects of their travel business.
