Bruce has had one of his best years yet with the Family Law Commission, of which he is president, picking up a major award from an international legal body. Elsewhere he’s continued his work with charities Reunite and Children and Families Across Borders, as well as spending time in the Supreme Court making new law to define ‘habitual residence’. The complexities of varying jurisdictions reward his desire to solve intellectual puzzles. ‘It is part of the job of an international family lawyer to be able to jockey around, to find and advise your client on the best country and jurisdiction to deal with the dispute,’ he says. ‘One of the easiest signs of negligence is to be too quick to adopt a solution in one particular country.’
