With 24 years’ experience and too many important cases to mention, according to his peers, Gupta specialises in complex children’s cases — including international relocation issues and crossborder parental abduction — and representing adults amid allegations of forced marriage or of being stranded abroad by a spouse. He describes his client base as extremely varied. ‘One day I can be representing a superrich entrepreneur, and the next day I could be representing a child,’ he says. ‘It stimulates the grey cells. Basically, I seem to be the one solicitors instruct if a case seems out of the ordinary.’ He recalls one difficult case in the House of Lords that saw him act — and win — for two young Zimbabwean girls, aged ten and thirteen, who were fighting deportation.
