If you’re a client, you’ve got Alan’s full attention, for one simple reason: he’s deliberately never had a shopfront, to avoid walk-ins disturbing his meetings. He’s also keen to avoid sacrificing quality of service by growing too big. But the father-of-six says that may change if his four children, who all work with him, ‘all start having children at the quantity I’ve had’. Despite a general election and uncertainty over property taxes, things are looking rosy. ‘We had two offers yesterday which I’m negotiating, and we’ve had two very big enquiries today,’ he says. In his spare time he renovates his private properties for pleasure but shows no signs of planning to retire. ‘Can you imagine how boring it would be not working? This has become my life,’ he chuckles.
