Transactions have doubled in 2016 from last year, van Straubenzee says, having sold three properties in the over £50 million bracket in prime central. ‘It’s our busiest year,’ he enthuses. With the aim to set up a ‘high-end property family office’, VanHan’s founder set up the firm after his time at Strutt & Parker. A qualified chartered surveyor, he says having these credentials makes one stand out and gain clients’ trust in the property world. ‘It just adds that level of professionalism. When people in the market are looking to instruct agents, if they don’t want to have a big powerhouse like Savills or Knight Frank, then they’ll have a boutique agency that’s professionally qualified.’

With high volumes of transactions in 2016 and a number of ‘exciting’ projects in the pipeline, van Straubenzee is proud of the firm’s growth and track record since its inception in 2012. ‘Our commercial division is growing, our lettings team has only been opened three months ago and we’ve already done eight deals.’

On what separates the great from the good, van Straubenzee recalls wise words from a family confidant: ‘I remember my uncle telling me when I was eighteen, “The three most important things in business are: trust, trust, and trust.”’

‘If you have good contacts, you’re professionally qualified and you start to prove a track record of deals, and clients are happy with your work, they would want to come back with repeat business or they want to refer you on to other contacts of theirs— it’s how you develop really.’
