The goodhumoured joint senior partner of the growing property practice has almost 80 staff and more than 36 years’ experience in prime commercial and residential real estate — advising developers, HNW investors, lenders and banks. They also act on the contentious side, ‘if it all goes horribly wrong’. The daughter of legendary property lawyer David Brecher, Valerie is a first-rate contact and troubleshooter on any large-scale project — she’s even transacted an ex-US Air Force base. She has a particular speciality with shopping centres, but is just as comfortable advising purchasers on Regent’s Park mansions, including one ‘marvellous’ address, she confides. ‘It will be the second largest residence in London.’ Like brother and co-senior partner Andrew (also featured here), she has an enviable contacts book rich with high-flyers in the real estate, financial, family office and HNW investor arenas, increasingly focused on the ‘edges’ of London and further afield. She considers herself a trusted adviser to those on the Sunday Times Rich List, and regularly introduces clients to opportunities: debt funding, equity and joint venture partners around the world. She is known for giving strong, unequivocal advice. ‘You have to put your head on the block as a solicitor… You can’t be equivocal,’ she says. ‘That is something I believe very strongly.’ Clients are unequivocal, too. ‘Our relationship with Brecher goes back many years,’ says Arrowcroft chairman Nicholas Hai. ‘Their advice is unfailingly commercial and accurate and we really enjoy working with them.’
