Midway through Spear’s meeting with Littleboy, he jumps up, leaves the room and returns with a board game. ‘Pretend you’re an entrepreneur, just about to exit your company and you have no experience of the concept of wealth management,’ he says, dividing the board into nine areas of concerns onto which clients allocate markers of importance. A gimmick, yes, but he insists it plays a serious role in tailoring services for clients, as well as ensuring both husband and wife understand their investments to avoid ‘the suits suddenly appearing’ after the death of a spouse. Do the toys work? He believes they do. ‘I will make sure your wealth lasts and ensure that it has its intended consequences,’ he says. ‘You cannot allow wealth to cascade thoughtlessly.’
