Barbara Reeves specialises in complex international divorces, which often involve non-disclosure issues, enforcement orders and complex family trust issues. Her expertise in family law stretches beyond divorce and is remarkably broad – she covers injunctions, property disputes and private children arrangements, including surrogacy, adoption and abduction. Her clients range from entrepreneurs and family business owners to City professionals and the independently wealthy. As such, Reeves acknowledges that Mishcon’s family team has a reputation for ‘litigation prowess’ when it comes to big-money disputes. Her career history features a variety of reported cases on both divorces and children matters – many of which have reached the Court of Appeal – but she is also a qualified mediator, adept at resolving matters away from court. It is not just the reputation for successful litigation that makes Mishcon stand out. ‘We also work with our clients to create wealth planning, family governance and risk management strategies,’ she explains. These processes are important because they enable clients – often families with intergenerational wealth – to avoid the ‘potentially corrosive impact of relationship disputes’. Reeves sits on the Young Vic’s development board and is also actively involved at the Southbank Centre: she is on the board of the Women of the World festival, and the Mishcon-sponsored biennial WHY festival promoting youth activism.
