UHNW Wealth Managers

‘It helps that we have been independently owned and managed for 222 years. That naturally aligns our own long-term interests with those of our clients,’ says Duncan MacIntyre, CEO of Lombard Odier’s UK private client business since 2016. He has spent 25 years in wealth management, and was previously at Coutts, where he founded the private office division managing UHNW clients globally. At Lombard Odier, clients are at the heart of the bank. ‘We are a demand-led business, not a supplyled one,’ MacIntyre explains. And that idea drives innovation. Lombard Odier stands out for its single, global technology platform which operates across multiple booking centres and allows a flow of information and interaction between investment analysts, bankers and clients. MacIntyre notes that 2018’s resurgence in volatility means clients need sound, clear-eyed guidance more than ever – surely good news for a bank laser-focused on bespoke wealth management: ‘Choppy waters are where we can really make a difference by carefully navigating a path for each individual client just when things feel more challenging.’ As with the rest of the industry, Lombard Odier must engage the next generation of clients. One key trend here is the growing popularity of sustainable investment. ‘There is a definite change in tone,’ he says. ‘It used to be a “nice-to-have” and now it’s becoming a “must-have”. Investors want solutions which align with their values.’
