As managing director, Dylan Williams has responsibility for the bank’s HNW business across England and Wales, with a diverse client base of entrepreneurs, executives and professionals among others. Williams joined Coutts in 1998 on the graduate scheme and has held many roles at the bank since, starting with a move to Manchester in 2001 to help the firm focus on its sports and media proposition. He built a business from scratch specialising in the sector, going on to become managing partner for the north west in 2008 before moving back to London to take up the role of head of coverage looking after Coutts’ regional business, entrepreneurs and Coutts Commercial. ‘The breadth of our proposition across lending, banking, investments and financial planning all delivered under one roof and on one platform sets us apart from the competition,’ he says. ‘Our client network also sets us apart, and our ability to leverage this to add value to our clients beyond financial services is something our clients really value. Coutts provides the full range of private banking and wealth management services to HNW and UHNW clients, including discretionary and advisory investment services as well as multi-asset fund solutions, flexible lending including mortgages and loans, and a full suite of banking services. An area of specialism is the Coutts Institute which provides advice on philanthropy and wealth succession. The last 12 months have seen strong levels of growth for the business across all the key areas, says Williams. ‘Clients have put to one side the political uncertainty and continued to take a long term view with their personal wealth.’ The low interest rate environment is also attractive for HNW clients, who have sought to borrow at historically low levels to take advantage of the various opportunities they see in the market. The best part of the job for Williams is the interesting people he gets to meet, and in particular the entrepreneurs. ‘I love the energy they exude, but also their relentless quest to break down barriers, to make a difference and to succeed. It makes you ask yourself, are you doing enough?’
