Khaled Saïd, one of three co-founders of Capital Generation Partners, takes care to stay ahead of the curve: ‘In response to our clients’ evolving investment interests we have established new capabilities in direct real estate and direct investing,’ he tells us. CapGen is a highly refined business with deep knowledge of the needs of UHNWs. ‘The challenge that we all face is that it’s a competitive process to win a mandate, so there is this prisoner’s dilemma around what do you say to your prospect,’ Saïd says, adding in good humour: ‘We like having referees in the room, so long as they know what they’re doing.’ But they’re certainly winning plenty of bids. ‘Our clients are individuals, families, trusts and endowments,’ the impeccably mannered Saïd explains. ‘Since being founded, the firm has invested over $6 billion of client money and grown to 40 employees, and currently stands at $2.5 billion AuM. Clients range in size from $25 million to over $500 million.’ Saïd has a top reputation: ‘He is just an absolutely quality individual,’ says an industry insider. His firm has superb relationships with trustees, accountants and lawyers. The wealth manager attributes this impressive performance to the firm’s approach. ‘Clients are increasingly looking for ways to get direct exposure,’ Saïd says. ‘We think we have the solution to give them access to directly held assets but with a well-managed overlay to increase the likelihood of investment success.’
