Linzi Bull’s clients, for whom she is a trusted port of call, often have a high profile in the media or business. She has seen a rise in prenups and postnups: ‘When I started doing them, it was for the wealthy, but nowadays more and more people want to protect particular assets. Nuptial agreements are increasingly being used as a standard wealth protection tool and one which clients of all ages, backgrounds and asset positions are entering into.’ That work sits alongside her alternative families practice. ‘My work is extremely varied,’ says Bull. ‘It is also important to identify and keep in mind what that particular client’s priority is – the children, the business, the house, the inheritance or the family pet. It can determine the way the whole case unfolds.’ A recent highlight was a successful result for a same-sex couple in an international surrogacy case involving blackmail and associated privacy issues. ‘We made sure our clients became legal parents in time to celebrate Christmas with their children,’ she says. This, she says, it the best part of her work. ‘The day on which clients get their parental orders is such a happy day in court, and I enjoy being able to meet the children. It is a real highlight. As is hearing from a former divorce client a year on that he or she is in a new relationship, has remarried or is happily settled in a new home and feels completely free from the stress of the process.’
