Chairman of NetScientific since 2013, Sir Richard Sykes is a legendary figure in healthcare. He served as chairman and CEO of Glaxo plc, then GlaxoSmithKline plc, from 1995 to 2002. NetScientific aims to source companies, says Sykes, with ‘exciting early stage technologies, and then supports and funds them as they develop and eventually reach commercial stage.’ He adds: ‘NetScientific’s particular focus is on companies that have the potential to treat chronic diseases – such as heart disease, which accounts for 31 per cent of all deaths worldwide.’ The firm has had an exceptional year with an impressive three portfolio companies – ProAxsis, Vortex and Wanda – now commercially available.
