Bayshore Capital’s CEO Tready Smith ensures that the boutique investment firm can stay ahead of its institutional competition. Bayshore specialises in niche investments which often have a longer time horizon. Typical clients are UHNWs, mainly entrepreneurs looking to diversify their net worth with investments outside of their core businesses. Since 2012, Bayshore has sourced many investments in the private markets, predominantly in private debt. ‘We are their partner, helping them source and manage investments while they focus on what they know best,’ Smith says. When her family sold their operating business in 1998, she struggled to find an investment advisory firm whose interests were aligned with their own. She left her consulting career at Deloitte to establish a family office and has been investing on behalf of family, friends, and clients ever since. ‘I’ve been building valuable knowledge and relationships for the past 20 years. I feel like I’m in the sweet spot of my career to provide our clients with strong deal flow. I’m old enough to make informed decisions, but still young and optimistic enough to appreciate major changes shaping our future!’ Smith is grateful for an early mentor who really helped her focus on the long-term. She tells Spear’s that “’luck’ is when opportunity meets preparation’, and adds that ‘great investors possess vision, access, and the conviction to create and shape opportunities’.
