Mishcon de Reya was founded in 1937 as a one-man office in Brixton.
Today, it is one of the best-known law firms in Britain, employing more than 900 people, offering a wide range of legal and related services to individuals and companies.
Barbara Reeves is a partner in the family law department, where she specialises in all aspects of divorce and matrimonial law, having led cases involving substantial wealth, complex multi-jurisdictional disputes and trust issues.
Her clients include HNW and international clients from a wide range of backgrounds, including entrepreneurs, owners of family businesses, City professionals and the independently wealthy.
Reeves was a corporate lawyer at CMS for several years before seeking a role in private client work ‘that was more than simply a commercial transaction and/or disagreement,’ she explains. ‘While corporate work relies on a skill set to manage a professionally driven commercial process, family work relies on managing a process for clients who are often experiencing emotional turmoil and trauma.’
The family law department at Mishcon de Reya has had a busy year, and has seen a significant increase in overseas clients using family issues as a springboard into the wider services in the firm, such as reputation management, trust disputes and commercial advice, as Reeves explains to Spear’s. Over the past 12 months, she has also been busy developing the firm’s international surrogacy practice.
