‘Building your own private library brings the most wonderful sense of reward,’ says Ben Scott, an experienced book dealer based in central London who worked at two established firms in Mayfair before starting his own business.
Over the years he has assisted members of the Royal Family, senior politicians and even Arab sheikhs to assemble significant collections. ‘It is about carefully applying a wide knowledge and understanding towards meeting the expectations of the client,’ he says. Locations have included holiday homes in the Caribbean, London private members clubs and even superyachts. ‘Building around 300 titles on East African culture for a house in Kenya was a personal favourite,’ he says.
