This year, Colin Rogerson was made partner at Dawson Cornwell, having built up his career since he qualified in 2011 to become ‘the go-to lawyer’ for surrogacy cases.
Most of his HNW clients are professionals or celebrities entering into international surrogacy arrangements. ‘Surrogacy can be a daunting prospect because you need to have an understanding of all aspects of the process,’ says Rogerson. ‘There are often complex financial issues to consider, such as trusts and tax consequences (particularly if, for example, the child is born in the US and will be a US citizen). It is not uncommon to be working alongside lawyers in different disciplines from multiple jurisdictions together with tax and financial planners,’ he explains.
