‘In my experience, clients do not want to be a reported case. They want to be an unreported one,’ says Julian Lipson, who narrowly missed out on being Spear’s Family Lawyer of the Year in 2018.
After university, Lipson worked in the US for a tour company. ‘The skills that I learned from directing anxious affluent Americans through unfamiliar foreign territories later translated well into doing much the same thing with my clients going through divorces,’ he jokes.
Lipson is known for his technical proficiency – an essential asset when he recently acted for the wife in a high-asset divorce. The primary asset was a business that had been in the husband’s family for nearly 60 years – a matter with intricate US tax issues, requiring an extremely targeted negotiation.
